The IELTS fee in Canada is quoted before tax. IDP lists CAD 335 to 361, and British Council centres in Toronto showed CAD 359 to 376 on 15 October 2026. Provincial sales tax is added at checkout. The IELTS fee in the UAE is AED 1,590 for Academic or General Training on computer. Choosing Writing on Paper at IDP costs AED 1,750. What the fee depends on

The country. This is the main factor. The test is the same everywhere; the price is not.

The version of the test. Academic and General Training cost the same. IELTS for UKVI, which some UK visa routes require, costs more for the same test content, because it is taken under extra security conditions. IELTS Life Skills is a different, shorter test and costs less.

The city or centre. In most countries every centre charges the same. Pakistan is the clear exception in this list.

Not the provider. The British Council and IDP both run IELTS, and within a country their fees are usually identical or within a few per cent. Choose between them on test dates and location, not price.

The fee is per attempt

This is the part worth planning around. Every sitting costs the full fee again, and a missed band by half a point means paying twice.

Three things reduce the chance of that:

Know the exact score you need, including any minimum in each skill. What IELTS band score do you need? explains how to read a requirement.
Sit a full mock test first. If your mock result is below your target, the real test will be too. A free IELTS mock test gives you a band for each skill before you spend the fee.
Check how long the result must last. A result that expires before you apply is a fee wasted. See how long an IELTS score is valid.

Go to the official test centre search on ielts.org and choose your country and city.
Open the page for the centre you plan to use. The fee for each test type is listed there.
Check it again on the booking page at the moment you pay, because that is the price you will be charged.
