Taking IELTS in Nepal.

IELTS in Nepal is run by the British Council and IDP, in Kathmandu and in six cities outside the valley. The fee is the same everywhere on the official centre pages: NPR 36,000 for Academic or General Training, NPR 36,400 for IELTS for UKVI and NPR 29,000 for IELTS Life Skills. Most venues offer IELTS on computer, and many also offer Writing on Paper.

How to book IELTS in Nepal

  1. 01 Check which test you need: Academic for universities, General Training for most work and migration routes, IELTS for UKVI or Life Skills for UK visas.
  2. 02 Choose a centre below and open its official booking link. British Council venues book through the British Council and IDP venues through IDP.
  3. 03 Choose IELTS on computer or, where offered, Writing on Paper, then a date and Speaking time.
  4. 04 Enter your details exactly as they appear in your passport and pay.
  5. 05 Check the confirmation email for the venue, arrival time and what to bring.

On test day

Bring the same valid ID you booked with. The British Council in Nepal asks for your passport on test day. Without valid ID you cannot sit the test.

Results

IELTS on computer: 1 to 5 days. On paper: up to 13 days. The British Council gives 1 to 3 days for IELTS on computer and up to 13 days on paper; IDP gives 3 to 5 days on computer and 13 days on paper. Retakes and One Skill Retake

IELTS One Skill Retake lets you resit one skill within 60 days of an eligible IELTS on computer test. Australia accepts it for eligible visas and New Zealand for skilled residence, but Canada does not for Express Entry, so check before you book. How One Skill Retake works.

Cancelling or moving your test

The British Council refunds 75% of the fee (a 25% admin fee) if you cancel 15 or more days before the test, and nothing within 14 days. IDP applies its own terms, so read them on the booking page before you pay.

Student and skilled visas accept Academic or General Training. Skilled points start at 7.0 in each skill (proficient English).

UK

UK visa routes that need a Secure English Language Test require IELTS for UKVI or Life Skills, offered in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Itahari and Biratnagar.

Express Entry needs IELTS General Training, and CLB 7 needs 6.0 in each skill.

Where can I take IELTS in Kathmandu?

Yes. There are British Council and IDP venues in Pokhara, Chitwan, Butwal, Itahari and Birtamod, and an IDP venue in Biratnagar.

How long do IELTS results take in Nepal?

1 to 3 days for IELTS on computer at the British Council and 3 to 5 days at IDP. Paper-based results take up to 13 days.
