Taking IELTS in Australia.

IELTS in Australia is run by IDP, at its own centres and at partner venues such as universities and language schools, in every state and territory. The standard Academic or General Training test costs AUD 490 at every venue listed, IELTS for UKVI AUD 505 and IELTS Life Skills AUD 390. Most results arrive within a day, and General Training is the test most people take for skilled migration.

How to book IELTS in Australia

  1. 01 Decide which test you need. Skilled and most other visas accept Academic or General Training; universities ask for Academic; UK visas need IELTS for UKVI or Life Skills.
  2. 02 Choose a centre below and open its official IDP booking link.
  3. 03 Pick IELTS on computer or Writing on Paper where offered, then a date and Speaking time.
  4. 04 Enter your details exactly as they appear in your passport and pay online.
  5. 05 Check the confirmation email for the venue, arrival time and what to bring.

On test day

Bring your current, original passport. IDP Australia accepts only an original and current passport on test day, and it must be the one you booked with. Arrive at least 30 minutes early to check in.

Results

IELTS on computer: usually 1 day. On paper: Writing on Paper is offered at some venues. IDP says most IELTS on computer results are available within one day. You get an email when your electronic Test Report Form (eTRF) is ready, then download it or send it to organisations from your IELTS profile. Retakes and One Skill Retake

IELTS One Skill Retake lets you resit one skill within 60 days of an eligible IELTS on computer test, at centres that offer it. Home Affairs accepts IELTS results that include a One Skill Retake for eligible visas, so check your visa page first. IDP says all Australian and New Zealand universities accept it. Cancelling or moving your test

The same policy covers every centre in Australia. You can change your test date, format or module once for free before the test. Cancelling refunds 100% more than 13 days ahead, 50% from 7 to 13 days ahead and nothing within 7 days, after the test or if you already changed your booking. Serious illness or other events beyond your control can qualify for a transfer if you apply within 14 days with evidence.

Home Affairs gives 0 points for competent English (6.0 in each IELTS skill), 10 for proficient (7.0 in each) and 20 for superior (8.0 in each).
