Taking IELTS in Pakistan.

IELTS in Pakistan is run by the British Council and IDP in 24 cities, from Karachi and Lahore to Swat and Quetta. Fees are set per venue: most charge PKR 75,600 for Academic or General Training, IDP venues in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and other Punjab cities charge PKR 76,240, and the British Council's main Karachi centre lists PKR 71,320. IELTS for UKVI is PKR 78,820 at most venues.

How to book IELTS in Pakistan

  1. 01 Check which test you need: IELTS for UKVI or Life Skills for most UK visas, General Training for Canadian and many Australian migration routes, Academic for universities.
  2. 02 Choose a centre below and open its official booking link. British Council venues book through the British Council and IDP venues through IDP. Fees differ by venue, so compare the cards.
  3. 03 Pick a date and Speaking time, on computer or with Writing on Paper where offered.
  4. 04 Enter your details exactly as they appear on your ID and pay.
  5. 05 Check the confirmation email for the venue, arrival time and what to bring.

On test day

Bring the same valid ID you booked with: your passport, or your national identity card (CNIC) where the booking allows it. The British Council refuses invalid or expired ID, and without valid ID you cannot sit the test.

Results

IELTS on computer: 1 to 5 days. On paper: Writing on Paper is offered at some venues. The British Council gives 1 to 2 days for IELTS on computer and up to 9 days for Life Skills; IDP gives 1 to 5 days on computer. You download the electronic Test Report Form from your online account. Retakes and One Skill Retake

IELTS One Skill Retake lets you resit one skill within 60 days of an eligible IELTS on computer test. At IDP Pakistan you get a full refund if you cancel a One Skill Retake 72 hours or more before it. Canada does not accept it for Express Entry, so check your route first. How One Skill Retake works.

Cancelling or moving your test

Both providers refund 75% if you cancel 15 or more days before the test and nothing within 14 days. At IDP, moving your test is free 15 or more days ahead, costs up to 25% of the fee from 5 to 14 days ahead, and is not allowed within 4 days. Exceptional circumstances such as serious illness can be considered with evidence.

UK visas

UK visa routes that need a Secure English Language Test require IELTS for UKVI or Life Skills. UKVI is offered in 12 cities and Life Skills in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Mirpur.

How long do IELTS results take in Pakistan?

1 to 2 days for IELTS on computer at the British Council and 1 to 5 days at IDP. Life Skills results take up to 9 days.

Can I get a refund if I cancel my IELTS test in Pakistan?

Yes, 75% if you cancel 15 or more days before the test, at both the British Council and IDP. Within 14 days there is no refund, unless you have an exceptional circumstance with evidence.
