Best Free IELTS Mock Tests Online in 2026

The best free IELTS mock tests compared: full tests in all four skills, real timing, AI scores for Writing and Speaking, and how many you get free.

October 20, 2026 8 min read

A mock test tells you where you stand. That is its whole job. But only if it feels like the real thing.

Many free tests are just a set of questions. A real mock has all four skills, real timing and a score you can trust. Ideally it also tells you why you lost marks.

We compared the free IELTS mock tests people are sent to most. Here is what each one gives you.

Disclosure: we make IELTS Studio, one of the tests below. Everything we say about the others comes from their own websites, which we read on 20 October 2026. If a site does not say something, we write “not stated”. We do not guess.

The short version

  • IELTS Studio runs the whole test in one sitting, with a video examiner for Speaking. Listening and Reading tests are free with no limit.
  • OneIELTS has over 100 free computer-based mock tests.
  • IELTS 9 gives you one free full mock and a predicted overall band.
  • Magoosh has one free full Academic test with a score report.
  • British Council IELTS Ready has one mock with AI feedback on its free plan.
  • Engnovate has a big test library, but only two free Writing or Speaking checks a month.

How we checked

We read each site’s mock test page, pricing page and help pages. We did not use review sites or other lists. Tests are ranked by how close they are to the real exam, then by how much you get for free.

What to look for in a free IELTS mock test

  1. All four skills in one sitting. The real test is long. A mock should train your focus for the whole thing, not just one section.
  2. Real timing and a real screen. If you take the computer test, practise on a screen that works the same way.
  3. Answers you can learn from. A score alone does not help. You need to see where each answer is in the audio or the passage, and why yours was wrong.
  4. A breakdown by question type. Your mistakes are rarely random. Seeing them sorted by question type shows you what to practise next.
  5. Scored Writing and Speaking. These two skills are where most people lose marks. A mock that skips them only shows half the picture.

The best free IELTS mock tests

1. IELTS Studio

IELTS Studio gives you a full IELTS mock in one sitting. Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, all under real timing. The screen looks and works like the computer test.

You can also pick the order. In the real exam, Speaking is sometimes on a different day. So you can take Speaking before Listening or after Writing, just like your own test day.

Speaking is with a recorded video examiner. It runs Parts 1 to 3 in order.

After the test, you get a band for each skill and an overall band. Then the real learning starts:

  • Listening and Reading reviews. Every answer is explained. It shows the exact moment in the audio, or the exact line in the passage, where the answer is.
  • Writing and Speaking feedback. A band for each of the four criteria, based on the official band descriptors. You also get a sample answer to compare with.
  • An error log. Your mistakes are saved, so you can go back to them.
  • A dashboard. It shows your weak spots by question type and by criterion. A calendar, synced with Google Calendar, helps you plan your next mock.

Free plan: one full mock every week. Listening and Reading tests are free with no limit. No card needed. Paid plan: USD 9.99 for a month. You pay once, and it never renews.

Suitable for: anyone who wants a true test-day rehearsal and a clear list of what to fix. Take a free mock test.

2. OneIELTS

OneIELTS offers over 100 full computer-based mock tests for free. It also has over 400 tests for single sections. Writing and Speaking get AI scores, and Speaking feedback covers the four criteria.

Suitable for: someone who wants lots of tests to work through.

3. IELTS 9

IELTS 9 has a free full mock in the real exam order. Writing and Speaking are scored by AI. At the end, you get a predicted overall band.

Suitable for: a single free check of your overall level.

4. Magoosh

Magoosh has one free full-length Academic practice test. It has seven sections and takes about 2 hours 55 minutes. You get a score report at the end. There are also separate Reading and Listening tests.

Suitable for: one Academic practice run. It does not cover General Training.

5. British Council IELTS Ready

The free plan includes one mock test with AI feedback and some short courses. Premium has more mock tests. Premium is free if you book your test with the British Council.

Suitable for: anyone who has already booked with the British Council.

6. IELTS Online Tests

IELTS Online Tests has a large set of free practice tests and an “AI Examiner” for Writing and Speaking. It says it partners with the British Council and IDP.

Suitable for: extra Listening and Reading practice.

7. Engnovate

Engnovate has a large library of practice tests. Writing and Speaking checks are limited to two a month on the free plan. Keeping checked answers private is a paid feature.

Suitable for: Listening and Reading practice when you do not need many Writing or Speaking checks.

Try a real IELTS Studio review

Scores are only half of a mock test. These are live demos, not screenshots. Click one and scroll through the whole review. Here is Listening.

Listening feedback Studio

This test taker got 32 out of 40, which is band 7.5. Every question is sorted two ways. By part, they scored 8 out of 10 in all four. By question type, the picture is clearer: 16 out of 20 on note completion, but 5 out of 5 on map labelling.

So the review note says it plainly. Most mistakes were in note completion. Replay those parts, read the transcript and find the cue you missed.

Reading works the same way.

Reading feedback Studio

Here the score was 31 out of 40, band 7.0. The weak spot was matching information, at 3 out of 6. Click any question and you see the exact line in the passage that holds the answer.

Speaking is with a recorded video examiner, in the real order. Click to try it.

Speaking mock test Studio

Writing and Speaking get a band for each of the four criteria, with notes on what to fix. Then your dashboard adds every mock together, so you can see your weak spots over time.

How to get the most from a mock test

  1. Treat it like the real day. Phone away, one sitting, no pauses. It is the only way the score means something.
  2. Review before you take the next one. One reviewed mock teaches more than three you just finished. Our band score calculator turns raw scores into bands.
  3. Look for patterns. Missing the same question type again and again? Practise that type next. Try our guide to True, False, Not Given.
  4. Space them out. One full mock every week or two is plenty. See how long it takes to go from 6 to 7.5.
