Lots of websites now promise to score your IELTS Speaking. Most work the same way. You record an answer, and an AI gives you a band.
So what is actually different? Three things. Does the site run the real test in the real order? Is the feedback tied to the four official criteria? And how much can you practise before you pay?
We looked at the sites people are told to use most often. Here is what we found.
Disclosure: we make IELTS Studio, one of the sites below. Everything we say about the other sites comes from their own websites, which we read on 20 October 2026. If a site does not say something, we write “not stated”. We do not guess.
The short version
- IELTS Studio runs the whole interview with a video examiner, in the real order. It also gives you sample answers and ideas when you get stuck.
- SmallTalk2Me and Speechful both offer full mock tests in your browser and name the four criteria.
- Engnovate checks Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 one at a time. It does not run them as one test.
- British Council IELTS Ready has a small free plan. You get much more when you book your test with the British Council.
- Cathoven and GoPrep score Speaking too, but only on paid plans that renew.
How we checked
We read each site’s IELTS Speaking page, pricing page and help pages. We did not use review sites or other lists like this one. Sites are ranked by how much of the real test they cover, then by how much you get for free.
What to look for in an IELTS Speaking website
- The full test, in order. Part 1, then a Part 2 cue card with one minute to plan, then Part 3. Practising one part alone does not train your stamina.
- Something like a real examiner. Talking to a blank screen feels nothing like the real test. A face asking the questions helps you get used to the pressure.
- A band for each criterion. Fluency, Vocabulary, Grammar and Pronunciation are marked on their own. You need to know which one is lowest.
- Clear next steps. Good feedback names the exact words or habits to fix, not just a score.
- Help when you run out of ideas. Many people lose marks because they have nothing to say. Ideas and sample answers fix that fast.
The best IELTS Speaking practice websites
1. IELTS Studio
IELTS Studio runs a full Speaking test with a recorded video examiner. It follows the real order. First an ID check, then the Part 1 questions. Next comes a Part 2 cue card with one minute to plan. Then the Part 3 discussion.
When you finish, you get a band for each of the four criteria. The feedback is based on the official band descriptors, so it tells you what to fix. You also get sample answers to compare with your own.
It has a few extras you will not find elsewhere:
- Idea Bank. Stuck for something to say? Open it inside the test. It gives you points, reasons and example answers you can listen to.
- AI chat. Talk through real Part 3 topics at your own level. You can type in your own language and see how to say it in English.
- The whole exam in one place. Writing, Reading, Listening and full mock tests sit in the same account.
- A plan that keeps you on track. Your dashboard shows your weakest criteria over time. A calendar, synced with Google Calendar, helps you stick to a schedule.
Free plan: one Speaking test with AI feedback every week. No card needed. Paid plan: USD 9.99 for a month. You pay once, and it never renews.
Suitable for: anyone who wants practice that feels like the real interview, with clear feedback on what to fix next. Try a free Speaking test.
2. SmallTalk2Me
SmallTalk2Me says it runs an AI simulator for Speaking Parts 1, 2 and 3, with instant grading on the four criteria. You can use its test sets or make a test with your own questions. You can also replay your recordings to see how you improve. There is a separate Writing simulator.
Suitable for: a quick graded mock in your browser, with your own questions if you like. Less useful if you also want Reading and Listening tests.
3. Speechful
Speechful offers Speaking and Writing practice with instant feedback on each criterion. It has an AI tutor called Speechy, daily vocabulary exercises and a 28-day Speaking study plan. It says it covers all four skills and is free to start.
Suitable for: someone who wants a daily routine to follow.
4. Engnovate
Engnovate has separate checkers for Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 answers. It also has answer generators and a large library of tests. The free plan gives you two Speaking checks a month. Keeping your checked answers private is a paid feature.
Suitable for: checking one part at a time. Not ideal if you want a full mock test, or want your answers kept private for free.
5. British Council IELTS Ready
The free version has short Speaking and Listening courses and one mock test with AI feedback. The Premium version has more mock tests and full courses. It is free if you book your test with the British Council, and it lasts until seven days after your test. The site does not explain how its Speaking test is set out, part by part.
Suitable for: anyone who has already booked with the British Council.
6. Cathoven
Cathoven scores Speaking across all three parts on fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. This is part of its Premium plan, which starts at USD 21 a week. Its free tools are for general English, not IELTS.
Suitable for: someone who is happy to pay each week for a study plan and an AI tutor.
7. GoPrep (formerly IELTS.gg)
GoPrep offers AI speaking practice with feedback on each criterion. It also has mock tests, games and an iPhone app. After a cheaper first period, the plan renews at USD 39.99 every four weeks.
Suitable for: an iPhone user who likes games and does not mind a subscription.

Try a real IELTS Studio Speaking test
This is a live demo, not a screenshot. Click it and a recorded examiner starts the test, just like the real interview. Allow your microphone when asked.
The examiner asks each question out loud. When the bar says “Your turn”, you answer. It moves through the identity check, Part 1, the Part 2 cue card and Part 3 in order.
After the test, you get a review like this one. Click it and scroll through the whole thing.
This speaker got 7.0 overall. Vocabulary was the lowest score, at 6.5. The review says why.
- What went well. Long answers with few pauses. Some less common words and idioms. Mostly accurate complex sentences. Clear pronunciation.
- What to fix first. Choose more natural word pairs. The review picks out one real slip: “haze” used to describe hills. It also flags small article mistakes and false starts.
Scroll further down and it gets more detailed:
- A full transcript. Every answer is written out, question by question, so you can read back what you really said.
- A closer look at each criterion. Fluency, for example, is split into speech rate, hesitation, cohesion and topic development.
- Notes linked to your answers. Each slip is tagged, such as a repetition or a self-correction. One click takes you to the answer where it happened.
That is the difference between a score and feedback. This speaker now knows the next step to 7.5 is vocabulary, and has a real example to start with.
Which one is right for you?
| Your situation | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want it to feel like the real interview | IELTS Studio | The whole test runs in order, with a video examiner |
| You freeze and run out of things to say | IELTS Studio | The Idea Bank gives you points and example answers |
| You want Speaking and the other three skills together | IELTS Studio | Writing, Reading, Listening and mock tests share one account |
| You want to check one part at a time | Engnovate | It checks Part 1, 2 and 3 answers separately |
| You want a daily plan to follow | Speechful | It offers a 28-day Speaking plan |
| You have booked with the British Council | IELTS Ready | Premium is free until a week after your test |
How to get more from any Speaking tool
- Start with a full test. Your band across all three parts tells you more than one Part 2 answer.
- Work on one criterion at a time. If Fluency is your lowest score, spend a week on longer answers first. Vocabulary can wait. Read how IELTS Speaking is scored.
- Repeat the same cue card. Answer it, read the feedback, then try again the next day. Our Part 2 guide has topics to start with.
- Treat Part 3 as a conversation. It is a discussion, not a speech. Part 3 rewards reasons and examples.
