Listening feels unfair. You hear it once, and then it is gone.
That is why the test itself is only half of good practice. The other half is finding out what you missed, and why. Did you lose the answer to a paraphrase? A distractor? A spelling slip?
We compared the IELTS Listening practice websites people use most. Here is what each one gives you.
Disclosure: we make IELTS Studio, one of the sites below. Everything we say about the others comes from their own websites, which we read on 20 October 2026. If a site does not say something, we write “not stated”. We do not guess.
The short version
- IELTS Studio gives you unlimited free Listening tests and explains every answer at the exact moment it is heard.
- OneIELTS has free tests with transcripts and an explanation for each answer.
- IELTSBiz has full papers with transcripts, but its free tier allows two sessions a day.
- British Council has free official sample tests.
- IELTS Online Tests has a large set of free practice tests.
What to look for in a Listening practice site
- Real exam timing. Four parts, 40 questions, one play. Practice that lets you pause and replay trains the wrong habit.
- Answers tied to the audio. You need to hear the exact moment the answer was given, not just read the key.
- A breakdown by question type. Most people lose marks on one or two types. You need to know which ones.
- Enough free tests. You will want many tests before test day. A small daily cap slows you down.
- The real test screen. If you take IELTS on computer, practise on a screen that works the same way.
How we checked
We read each site’s Listening page, pricing page and help pages. We did not use review sites or other lists. Sites are ranked by how much they help you learn from mistakes, then by how much you can practise for free.
The best IELTS Listening practice websites
1. IELTS Studio
IELTS Studio runs full Listening tests under exam conditions, all four parts, on a screen that works like the computer test. You can also choose practice mode when you want to slow down.
After the test, the review shows your band and your score out of 40. Every question is sorted by part and by question type, so you can see your weak spot at a glance.
Then comes the part that helps most. Every answer is explained at the exact moment it is heard in the recording. Replay that moment, read the transcript, and you can hear the cue you missed.
A few more things set it apart:
- Question-type drills. Practise one question type at a time, such as map labelling or note completion, with Pro.
- A full mock test. Take Listening as part of a full four-skill mock under real timing.
- A dashboard. It tracks your weak spots across every test you take.
Free plan: unlimited Listening tests with full reviews. No card needed. Paid plan: USD 9.99 for a month. You pay once, and it never renews.

Suitable for: lots of free tests with transcripts.
3. IELTSBiz
IELTSBiz has Listening practice for Parts 1 to 4 with one-play audio, and full papers with answers and transcripts. Its free tier allows two practice sessions a day. Pro starts at USD 11.99 a month.
Suitable for: short daily practice, if two sessions a day is enough.
4. British Council
The British Council offers free official IELTS sample tests on its website, including Listening.
Suitable for: seeing official sample material before test day.
5. IELTS Online Tests
IELTS Online Tests has a large set of free practice tests, updated regularly. It also sells courses and PDF packs.
Suitable for: extra free tests once you have a review routine.

Try a real IELTS Studio Listening review
This is a live demo, not a screenshot. Click it and scroll through the whole review.
This test taker got 32 out of 40, which is band 7.5. By part, they scored 8 out of 10 in all four parts. By question type, the picture is clearer: 16 out of 20 on note completion, but 5 out of 5 on map labelling.
So the review note says it plainly. Most mistakes were in note completion. Replay those parts, compare them with the transcript, and find the cue you missed.
You can also try the test screen itself.

How to get more from Listening practice
- Read the questions first. Use the time before each part to guess what kind of word fits each gap.
- Review every mistake. Replay the moment, read the transcript, and name why you missed it. Our guide to IELTS Listening parts explains what each part tests.
- Watch for paraphrase. The recording rarely uses the words in the question. See note completion questions.
- Check your band. The Listening band score calculator turns your score out of 40 into a band.
